Ray Anne CookM.Occupational Therapy
Ray Anne started her career working in special schools where the typical clients had either neurological impairment or learning difficulties and has run her private practice since 1990. She started and remains the director of Sensory Kidzone. Ray Anne has a passion for empowering parents to play with their children and has set up 2 toy libraries. She certified in Ayre’s Sensory Integration® in 1989 and is a lecturer on the sensory integration courses for the South African Institute for Sensory Integration (SAISI) since 1993. She has served on the SAISI Board since 1995 and is a past chairperson. Ray Anne has a passion for training Occupational Therapists and empowering parents and teachers. She frequently presents workshops relating to play, sensory integration and ADHD. She led the task group in the revision and publication of the Clinical Observations Booklet of gross motor items for SAISI. She is a certified Interactive Metronome Practitioner, Therapeutic Listening Practitioner, a Tomatis Practitioner and DIR®/Floortime Practitioner and incorporates these techniques in her practice. She has been involved in the facilitation of the Kwêla Camp. Ray Anne was the first recipient of the Western Cape Annual Private Practitioners Life Time Achiever Award in 2009. Both Ray Anne and her son have ADHD and learning problems which have helped her in understanding the clients better.
Robyn TurnbullOccupational Therapist
Robyn is a fun loving therapist who enjoys the hands on therapy with the child. Robyn's passion is to empower the parents, and teachers / tutors with information to further help the children in social, educational and self care activities. Robyn completed her Ayres Sensory Integration training (SAISI) and completed the Interactive Metronome certification. She has attended courses on group based therapy (OTGrow), Low Vision Conference (UJ) and Fundamental Hippotherapy (EATASA).
Lisa BarnardM.Occupational Therapy
Lisa is passionate about children and their development. She graduated from University of Cape Town in 2006 and has worked in various fields from hospitals, clinics, homes and schools and has dealt with all age groups from premature babies to the elderly. However, with this said her specialty and passion lies in paediatrics and she pursues all avenues of intervention with regards to assisting children in their development. Lisa completed her Masters degree in Early Childhood Intervention and is certified in Ayers Sensory Integration®. She is certified in Talk Tools®. Lisa started and ran a private practice in Dubai for several years, where she focused on children with various challenges, facilitating optimal development through therapeutic intervention as well as implementing both home programs and specialized individual programs for children in the classroom.
Patricia MartinAccounts Manager
Patricia continues to bring a nurturing and helpful ambiance to our team. Besides doing the accounts, she acts as a personal assistant to Sensory Kidzone. She has 3 married children and a grandson. Patricia enjoys gardening, ballroom dancing with her husband and spending time with her family and grandchild.
Gerda de GeerOccupational Therapist
After qualifying from UP in 2008 and completing her community service year Gerda joined the private sector in 2010. Here she received mentorship, gaining new knowledge and experience in sensory integration as well as alternative treatment methods. This led her to complete her certification in the Ayres’ Sensory Integration method as well as Therapeutic Listening. She gained experience working with children with hearing impairments while working at Eduplex School in Pretoria. She also facilitated group therapy sessions at a frail care unit. She managed her own paediatric private practice for five years, prior to relocating to Cape Town. Apart from being a passionate clinician, Gerda also enjoys educating and promoting sensory processing and integration and has been a guest speaker on “Great Expectations” ( eTV ) and presented at a teachers’ conference and hosted workshops for teachers and parents on relevant topics.
